Tennis/Golf Elbow
Tennis elbow, also known as lateral epicondylitis, is a condition characterised by pain and tenderness on the outer part of the elbow. It is caused by overuse or repetitive strain on the forearm muscles and tendons that attach to the lateral epicondyle, a bony prominence on the outside of the elbow. Tennis elbow is commonly associated with repetitive motions that strain the forearm muscles and tendons. These motions are not limited to tennis and can include activities such as:
- Tennis or other racquet sports
- Painting
- Carpentry
- Typing or computer use
- Playing musical instruments
- Gardening
Symptoms include
- Pain and tenderness on the outer part of the elbow
- Weakness in the forearm
- Pain that worsens with forearm activity, such as gripping, lifting, or twisting
- Pain that radiates down the forearm towards the wrist
- Difficulty with activities that involve lifting or gripping
Treatment for tennis elbow focuses on relieving pain, reducing inflammation, and promoting healing. Common treatments include:
- Rest and Activity Modification
- Physical Therapy
- Ice and Heat Therapy
- Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT)
